Course Description
The ability to safety test electrical equipment and appliances (usually referred to as Testing and Tagging) is a skill which is highly valued by employers in the live event industry.
The purpose of this course is to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to safely inspect, test and tag electrical appliances.
This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for C4348 Certificate IV in Live Production and Technical Services. This course includes a WIL experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements.
You will be able to conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord assemblies and cord connected equipment through:
- working safely
- using a portable apparatus tester
- identifying faults
- applying tagging
Details of Learning Activities
Learning activities will include practical theory sessions, viewing Powerpoint presentation, written and oral question/answer sessions, practical assessment tasks.
Out of-class self-directed learner activities for this course include but are not limited to: private research at selected websites and revision of notes to reinforce classroom content. These activities will be monitored during class through question/answer sessions.

Focus: In this third class you will learn about the Unit of Competency Element 3: Tag tested cord connected apparatus and cord assemblies and document testing activities. Includes: In this class you will continue to practice inspecting electrical appliances and testing them with both an insulation/continuity tester as wel as a Portable Appliance Tester. Assessment: Your knowledge and understanding of the required bckground theory will be assessed with an open-book theory test. Your knowledge and understanding of inspecting and testing electrical appliances will be assessed in this class by completing an Individual open-book practical assessment task. Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester and will involve demonstration of practical tasks and testing knowledge of underpinning theory .
Assessment Tasks
Assessment task # 1.Individual, open-book theory test. (This assessment will occur during class #3)
This assessment will cover the key theory concepts which were covered in class including: Electrical Theory, Electrical Safety and Testing & Tagging.
Note: Demonstration of competency of this assessment requires that you must bring your own copy of Standard AS/NZS 3760:2010 for reference during the assessment.
The pass mark for this assessment task is 90%
Assessment task #2.Individual open-book practical assessment task (The timing of this assessment will vary however as a rough guide, the assessment could occur during class #3, 4 or 5.)
This assment task will cover Electrical Equipment Safety Inspection and Testing & Tagging.
Note: Demonstration of competency of this assessment requires that you must bring your own copy of Standard AS/NZS 3760:2010 for reference during the assessment.
The pass mark for this assessment task is 90%
