Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to implement and monitor work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and work practices as part of a small work team.

This course applies to workers who have a key role in maintaining WHS in an organisation, including duty of care for other workers.

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Identify existing and potential hazards and record them according to workplace procedures   1.2 Contribute to the development of strategies for implementing risk controls in line with workplace procedures and policies   1.3 Implement risk controls in line with the hierarchy of risk control and workplace and legislative requirements   1.4 Identify and report issues with risk controls, including residual risk, in line with workplace and legislative requirements

Details of Learning Activities

This course has a blended delivery.  Classes are delivered online with some demonstration of skill and knowledge conducted during face to face workshops (subject to Government restrictions due to Covid 19).  During online classes information is shared through talks and discussions, and workshops where exercises are conducted to apply learning. Time is spent during these online classes for students to work on group and individual assessment tasks.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1 - Perform a workplace risk assessment

Students perform a workplace risk assessment where they identify hazards, associated risk and then devise control measures to reduce risk.

Assessment Task 2 - Presentation Information session Workplace Health and Safety

Students will be required to present workplace health and safety information to other students.

Assessment Task 3 - Incident report

In this assessment students follow Work Health and Safety workplace policies and procedures in responding to a workplace incident and completing an incident form.

Assessment Task 4 - Emergency evacuation

Student will be required to follow emergency evacuation procedures and demonstrate an emergency evacuation

Assessment Task 5 - Short Answer Questions

Students are required to provide responses to knowledge-based questions
