Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake router installation and configuration as part of the upgrade in an existing network or the implementation of a new network.

1. Prepare to install router

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Prepare for given work according to relevant legislation, work health and safety (WHS) regulations, codes and standards

1.2 Arrange site access according to required procedure

1.3 Ascertain network topology from technical requirements

1.4 Determine the internet protocol (IP) addressing scheme for the network topology

1.5 Evaluate network management and security requirements, with reference to current and future requirements

1.6 Select a router with appropriate features according to technical requirements

1.7 Choose cables, wireless application protocol (WAP), wide area network (WAN) connectors and other peripherals according to network and router specification, and WAN protocols

2.1 Assemble router and peripherals according to manufacturer’s requirements, enterprise guidelines and protocols

2.2 Connect communications cables and WAN connectors to the router and network

2.3 Configure router according to manufacturer’s instructions and technical requirements, taking into account interoperability requirements with network components

3.1 Test the router for connectivity across the network and for routing protocol functions

3.2 Adapt or modify predetermined router configuration, depending on outcome of tests

3.3 Review router in line with organisational requirements

3.4 Test router and peripherals according to manufacturer’s instructions and technical requirements

3.5 Test hardware and router to ensure full functionality and interoperability

3.6 Reconfigure additional hardware as required

3.7 Make adjustments to network depending on test results

4.1 Tabulate test results and complete all user reports

Cluster Information:
This course is delivered in a cluster called Introduction to Networks. It is clustered with two units of competencies which are ICTTEN416 (EEET7360C) and ICTTEN417 (EEET7361C). You must enrol in both courses delivered in this cluster. All the learning and assessment activities will include the components of both competencies EEET7360C and EEET7361C.

  1. Product Assessment: Integrated Assignment

This assessment will involve a co-assessment of five (5) courses, viz.:

ICTICT401 - Determine and confirm client business requirements

ICTICT418 - Contribute to copyright, ethics and privacy in an ICT environment

ICTTEN416 - Install, configure and test an internet protocol network

ICTTEN417 - Install, configure and test a router

ICTDBS403 - Create Basic Databases

 

This course is graded as Competent or Not Yet Competent

 

Resubmissions

You will be allowed a resubmission attempt once per assessment only if it constitutes a reasonable attempt (see below).

For example, if you need to resubmit one of your assessments, you will not be entitled to any further resubmissions for that assessment. The mark you are granted for that resubmission will stand. You will still have the ability to resubmit other assessment tasks in the course

Please read all of the information handed carefully and ask lots of questions if you are unsure.

Reasonable Attempt

You must make a reasonable attempt on each submission to be granted a resubmission attempt.

What constitutes a reasonable attempt?

A reasonable attempt would be attempting to answer all of the questions asked of you to the best of your ability.

Leaving large sections of your work blank, or not submitting sections does not show your teacher you have enough of an understanding of the assessment to be deemed competent.

This indicates to your teacher that you didn’t seek out your teacher for help, or that you did not understand the work.

Please note, in the event you are eligible for a resubmission, a new due date will be provided to you. Please check your feedback carefully as missing this deadline will leave you with your original mark.

 

Deadlines

Deadlines are set when the course commences and may only be moved by the teacher if there is a reasonable reason to do so. This needs to also be agreed on by 70% of the class.

If work keeps getting pushed back, then it will make the back end of your semester too difficult to handle.

If you do not submit your work by the deadline without an approved extension from your teacher, you will lose your ability to gain a resubmission.

If your work is more than 48 hours late, then you will receive a mark of 0 or NYC for the assessment.

The only way to remove a 0 or a NYC is to apply for special consideration. Only if the special consideration is approved, will the assessment be graded.
