Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise situations where people may be in imminent crisis, and then to work collaboratively to minimise any safety concerns and make plans to access required support services.

 

This unit applies to any community services worker involved in crisis intervention. Management of the crisis may involve face-to-face, telephone or remote contact with persons involved.

Details of Learning Activities

There will be a range of learning activities to engage students with course material to develop skills, knowledge and understanding to recognise and respond to crisis situations. The learning activities will be interactive and will include: group work activities, peer learning, discussions, case studies, reflective learning, quizzes and practice learning exercises.

Overview of Assessment

There are four individual assessment tasks consisting of short answer questions, case studies and role plays. 

In order to achieve competency in this unit, you must be marked as satisfactory for each assessment task.

Students are allowed two submissions per assessment.  Any further resubmissions is at the discretion of the teacher and coordinator.

Assessment tasks include:

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1: This assessment requires students to complete short answer knowledge questions to consolidate and demonstrate knowledge, understanding and learning from this unit.

Assessment Task 2: This assessment requires students to adopt the role of a Mental Health Worker and complete role plays for 3 clients to demonstrate learning, knowledge and skills of recognising and responding to crisis situations to people who are experiencing suicide risk. There are also written tasks and verbal questions you need to complete as part of this assessment.
