Course Description
This course is designed to give you the skills and knowledge required to perform industrial sewing on textile products.
The unit applies to sewing work using an industrial sewing machine. Sewing operations may be performed to repair or finish textile products using a single machine on a limited range of fabrics and textile products.

On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge to demonstrate competency in the above elements.This course is a workshop based course. Students will undetake a number of technical exercises that enable them to perform industrial sewing.
Details of Learning Activities
This course is delivered as a practical workshop where you will be involved in practical exercises, learn theory through class demonstrations and exercises and participate in both in class and on-line activities.

Set up and wind bobbin Threading and inserting the bobbin case Introduction to OH&S Revise Basic Machine Safety and Safety signs. OH&S Set up of OH&S class representative schedule Revise parts of the machine & threading Needle Test Demonstration /discussion tension and stitch length adjustments. Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and students will be asked to demonstrate their competency. Assessment will be done by observation and by questioning by the assessor. Assessment tasks have been designed to measure competency in a flexible manner. To achieve successful completion of this course students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of competency.
Students will be awarded a grade only if competency has been demonstrated within the standard enrolment period on the first assessment attempt.
Units assessed as ‘not yet competent’ on a first assessment attempt and ‘competent’ on a second or subsequent attempt are to have results amended to competent but are not eligible for grading.
All work must be submitted by the due date.
Late submission will not be graded higher than a PASS.

Assessment tasks for this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered as essential building blocks for more substantial summative assessment tasks.
You will receive feedback on all assessment.

Each project has criteria that must to be completed to an acceptable standard for you to be deemed competent. No further grading of result will be considered until competency is achieved. You will be given an opportunity to resubmit work for assessment and represent it for assessment.

Other Information
It is an OHS requirement that students must wear flat fully covered shoes in the workshops. Long hair must be tied back and jewellery that could pose a possible hazard if caught in machinery must be removed.
