Course Description
This unit of competency, Create titles for screen productions CUFANM403A is delivered in the class Design Studio 1, together with Collaborate in a Creative Process BSBCRT402A and Make a presentation BSBCMM401A. This unit covers the skills required to create digital visual effects and titles for a screen based production. In addition, particular attention will be paid to motion graphic, broadcast design, and compositing effects.

Other required resources include suitable digital media storage such as a portable hard drive or USB flash drive, with at least 4Gb capacity.
Students will participate in a weekly wiki building activity. By the end of the course we will have collaboratively built a useful resource accessible by the entire cohort
Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises, practical project work and through the application of learned skills.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered as essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks.
To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessments and a grade for the summative assessments.
Formative Assessment
1. Build Motion Graphic Wiki
Contribute to a group motion graphic research resource. Due at the end of semester.
2. Animate basic transformations
Demonstrate your ability to animate basic transformations in After Effects. Due before the following class.
3. Motion in Poetry Animation
Plan, design and create a motion graphic animation that references poem, piece of literature or song for it’s inspiration.
4. Particle Effects
Demonstrate your ability to create and manipulate particle effects. Due before the following class.
5. Motion Track/Stabilise/Graph Editor/Time Remap
Demonstrate your ability to stabilise, track and remap video footage. Due before the following class.
6. Shoot Live Action Greenscreen
As a team design, art direct, act, direct and shoot live action footage for use in a composite. Due in class.
Summative Assessments
1. Exploding Human Particle Effect
Shoot green screen footage, stabilise video on composite background, create explosion SFX with use of particles.
2. Citizen Kane - Live Action/3D Composite
Work as part of a team to shoot and integrate live action footage into a 3D environment, recreating a scene from Orson Welles’ “Citizen Kane”.
