Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to present and negotiate persuasively, lead and participate in meetings and make presentations to customers, clients and others.
It applies to managers and leaders who identify, analyse, synthesise and act on information from a range of sources, and who deal with unpredictable problems. They use initiative and judgement to organise the work of self and others and plan, evaluate and co-ordinate the work of teams.

A range of learning activities are planned for this course including self-paced and collaborative classroom based activities.
The self-paced activities will be delivered through various technology platforms and may include contribution to wikis and discussion threads, quizzes and interactive sessions.
The collaborative classroom based activities will include group discussions, group problem solving activities and opportunities to practise your skills in simulated business activities, exercises and tasks.
We expect you to participate and contribute in all scheduled learning activities.

Overview of Assessment
In order to achieve competency in this unit, you must provide:
Performance Evidence
Evidence of the ability to:
- negotiate and present persuasively
- communicate clearly with business associates, client groups and others to position the business to best effect including listening actively, understanding the information needs of others and adapting communication to suit the audience
- prepare for, participate in, and lead meetings to obtain outcomes
- prepare and make presentations to groups of people including:
- identifying suitable forums for presentations
- presenting reliable information
- designing the presentation to meet the needs of the audience
- answering questions.
Knowledge Evidence
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, you must:
- explain the business and organisational protocols for the release of information and communicating internally or externally
- explain the requirements to maintain confidentiality in the workplace
- identify industry, media and government organisations, events and communication channels relevant to the organisation
- demonstrate principles of cross-cultural communication
- explain principles of negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution and incident de-escalation
- describe structured and inclusive meeting procedures.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the management and leadership field of work and include access to:
- relevant workplace documentation and resources
- case studies and, where possible, real situations
- interaction with others.

Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions. You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed. Finally, you can email or arrange an appointment with your teacher to gain more feedback on your progress.

Assessment Tasks
This unit involves 1 task - undertaking and implementing a project and is divided into 3 sections. This is an individual assignment.
Overview
To be successful in Undertake Project Work and Communicate with influence, you must complete all 3 sections. Once they have been completed and you have been deemed competent, a grade will be applied. An indicative grade may be given for each section to enable you to gauge your progress. Refer to the grading criteria at the end of this document for further information.

Section 1: Project scope and plan due Week 6
In consultation with your work place manager/supervisor and your facilitator, decide on a workplace project that you can use for the assessment task.
Section 2: Project monitoring and Communication strategy due Week 10
Develop and submit an outline of the strategies and processes to be used to measure and monitor and communicate project progress.
Section 3: Project outcomes report due Week 14
Develop and submit a project completion report

Submission Requirements
You should:
• Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
• Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks (hard copy and soft copy.
• When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use a cover sheet that includes a declaration and statement of authorship. You must complete, sign and submit a cover sheet with all work you submit for assessment, whether individual or group work. On the cover sheet you declare that the work you are presenting for assessment is your own work. An assignment cover sheet for submission of each assessment task is available on Canvas.

Late Submission Procedures You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates. If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Re-submissions
If you are found to be unsuccessful in a particular Course Assessment Task (or you do not submit/attend) you will be allowed one re-submission. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the re-submission.
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
