Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish and work within the current context, philosophy and values of the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector.
This unit applies to workers who come into contact with clients affected by alcohol and other drugs.
This unit is delivered and assessed in a cluster with:

Teaching Schedule
Classes are delivered over 3 days each month. The timetable will be available on enrolment.

The task allows you to demonstrate your research and critical thinking skills in finding and reviewing key information needed to inform your practice as a worker in the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) sector. This assignment It is divided into 3 research areas.

Task 2:
This task asks you to reflect on the context and practice in alcohol and other drugs work. It addresses the context that you work in and the approaches used by you and your organisation. You can draw from your current or recent work experience in the AOD sector when responding to the questions.
Task 3:
Your workplace supervisor is asked to complete a third party report. Please familiarise yourself with the items that your supervisor will be looking for in your workplace performance in the marking criteria.
Task 4:
This short answer task you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this cluster. This assessment tasks allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of key concepts in working with diverse people in the AOD context.
Task 5:
This task allows you to demonstrate your understanding of the challenges that you can face when working in the AOD sector while recognising and respecting the social and cultural backgrounds of clients. It will also allow you to reflect on your own perspectives on diversity and demonstrate your understanding of various communication strategies.
