Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

Details of Learning Activities

This unit will be conducted face-to-face over six (6) weeks with assessments to demonstrate communication skills between a therapist and a client. 

Importantly, topics that are covered will provide skills and knowledge that will be contextualised into the Student Clinic, and then Industry.

Topics discussed will be:  

  • diversity in Australia and it’s impacts
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander diversity
  • communication skills for working with diverse people
  • legal and ethical considerations
  • communication and cultural barriers
  • self-reflection and cultural awareness.
