Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to determine the remedial massage needs of athletes and to adjust assessment and treatment to develop preventative and injury related treatment strategies for athletes and other sport active people.
This unit applies to remedial massage therapists.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Overview of Assessment
To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency. Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks.

Assessment Tasks
Knowledge and Skills Assessments:
There will be 1 Knowledge Assessment and 3 Practical Case Study Assessments to assess your ability to apply the skills and knowledge delivered in class and outlined in the course notes for Musculoskeletal Pathology.
Knowledge Assessment
In order to be deemed as satisfactory for this subject, you will be required to complete one written theoretical assessment examining your essential knowledge and understanding of musculoskeletal pathologies.
The written theory assessment will consist of short and long answer questions, labeling diagrams and completing tables. Content for the exam will consist of material covered in the class and from the prescribed text book. In order to pass the theory assessment students will be required to obtain a 70% pass mark. The date of the written theory assessment will be:

Skills Assessment
Each student will be required to complete three case study practical exams. Each student will be required to attend their allocated exam time and complete a case study that will examine the student’s ability to assess and treat the needs of the athlete. You must receive a Satisfactory (S) result for all the skills contained within the Skills Evidence Checklist in order to pass the requirements for this assessment task.
