Course Description

In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to prepare sketches and drawings used for communicating ideas to clients and other parties. This includes capturing design concepts and options taken from architectural drawings to create simpler versions.

The course applies to builders, experienced tradespersons, project managers and estimators who prepare sketches and drawings for estimating, explaining details and showing measurements required for building and construction work. It does not describe more complex drafting skills.

Assessment conditions

Describe how assessments meet the assessment conditions

Assessors must meet the requirements for assessors contained in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations.

Assessment can be undertaken in the workplace or in a simulated workplace environment.

A simulated environment is one that realistically replicates workplace conditions, materials and equipment, interactions with others and workplace irregularities, and which meets industry standards for safety and environmental practices.

Candidates must have access to:

Assessment conditions

Describe how assessments meet the assessment conditions

  • construction plans and specifications

These will be provided by RMIT

  • current building and construction codes and standards

These will be provided by RMIT

  • the NCC

Students will be directed to download from authorised site.(https://www.abcb.gov.au/)

  • hand drawing equipment

Students will be required to have their own:

  • Scale ruler
  • Pencil
  • Pen
  • Set-square

RMIT will provide paper and drawing boards where required for assessments.

  • workplace procedures and other quality documentation required to undertake the performance criteria and assessment requirements

RMIT will provide these by way of assessment instructions and resources

The classroom will simulate a workplace (drafting office/builder's office). Given the desks are not set up for professional drafting, students will have to overcome this irregularity.

  • computers, applications and software to access drawings and other relevant information.

RMIT will provide access via RMIT desktop Computers are also available for students on RMIT

campus.
