Course Description
In this course you will learn the skills and knowledge required to manage the production of sound designs, including planning and directing the production, engaging specialists where required, and overseeing and evaluating sound design projects.

Details of Learning Activities
In class activities will include a range of teacher directed group activities, projects, class exercises, review discussions/lectures and independent project based work.
Out-of-class activities include completion of individual design and pre-production work, preparation for class presentations and production work. Online research and occasional outside of class time group discussions will be required to maintain project work.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises, oral/written presentations and through the application of learned skills and insights. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on CANVAS.
Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following three (3) assessment tasks to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessments and you will also receive a result after your final assessment task.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Knowledge Questions.
This assessment task is designed to allow you to produce evidence of the knowledge required to manage the production of a sound design project. Many of the questions relate to the fundamentals of working in the music industry and refers to areas such as legislation, media formats for saving recordings and booking recording studios. Due by Week 8, Semester 2.
Assessment Task 2: Sound Design Production Plan.
In this task you are required to undertake research and planning for 2 different types of bands during the Collide events which is a series of live productions, performed and recorded in RMIT’s new media precinct. The 2 bands play different genres of music which have different production and equipment requirements. Due by Week 8, Semester 2.
Assessment Task 3: Direct the production and finalisation - Collide.
You must implement your sound design production plans for the Collide live music productions to and capture four different (4) live sound recordings; two (2) songs each from two (2) separate artists recorded in RMIT Television Studio A. Due by Week 14, Semester 2.Assessment Task 4: Direct the production and finalisation - Chicago / GLE.
This task is broken into 4 parts and is based on your work with DePaul University in Chicago. Together with your team mates you will be completing requested sound for a short (supplied) animation film. Due at various stages, by Week 15, Semester 2.Assessment Task 5: Direct the production and finalisation - Colour Wheel.
You will have class week 9, Semester 2 to complete this practical assessment on site at the live theatrical event, The Colour Wheel, in RMITs The Capitol theatre.You should refer to the assessment brief which is available on Canvas for the full assessment criteria.
