Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate gender equity key messages to a range of different stakeholders using an intersectional approach.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. 

This unit supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required to develop and deliver gender equity key messages in the workplace to a range of internal and external stakeholders, colleagues and other staff using an intersectional approach. The purpose of communication may be to inform, educate, influence or engage for action.

It includes preparing for communication, developing a communication plan, delivering gender equity key messages and reviewing and revising key messages. It includes planning for and responding to backlash and disclosures of family violence and/or harassment.

This unit applies to practitioners and professionals with varying degrees of responsibility working in roles that have a responsibility to communicate gender equity to stakeholders. This unit enhances the ability to communicate effectively to promote and engage people in gender equity work within known work environments and work practices.

Assessment Tasks

This course is assessed in accordance with competency-based assessment.   To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessment tasks to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher when you have completed the assessment tasks. You should refer to the assessment plan which is available on Canvas for details of each assessment task and for detailed assessment criteria.   Assessment Task 1: Knowledge questions Assessment Task 2: Stakeholder engagement project Assessment Task 3: Communication plan Assessment Task 4: Policy and practice review   You will be given two (2) attempts for each assessment to demonstrate the required knowledge and skills. A third (3) attempt can only be offered after discussions between teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic. Resubmissions beyond two (2) attempts are at the discretion of the teacher and/or coordinator.   Grades that apply to courses that are delivered and assessed in accordance with competency-based assessment are: CA: Competency Achieved NYC: Not Yet Competent DNS: Did not Submit for Assessment
