Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide information about infection prevention and control procedures, integrate those procedures into work practices and monitor workplace performance.
This unit applies to individuals working in health or direct client care contexts, who have a coordination, team leading or supervisory responsibility in relation to infection prevention and control.

Students will be involved in the following learning activities to meet requirements for this competency: • Face to Face classes • Written classroom tasks • Demonstration and classroom discussion • Group discussions • Participation in group activities based on simulated workplace exercises • Clinical practice, peer evaluation/feedback session/completion of practical worksheets • Online learning via CANVAS • Self-managed research to support completion of assessments. • Students will be observed and assessed through their planned activities throughout the duration of the course

CANVAS is an online learning resource with the clear instruction and guidance for each unit. Within CANVAS are course description, teaching schedule, assessments and all relevant information and due dates, resources and other materials required for completion of each unit of competency.
Additional materials may be provided in class and lists of relevant reference books, resources in the library and accessible Internet sites will be provided where possible. During the course, you will be directed to websites to enhance your knowledge and understanding of difficult concepts.
Overview of Assessment
Before the critical aspects of evidence are considered all prerequisites must be met.
The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:
implemented and monitored infection prevention and control policy and procedures for at least 1 work area and at least 1 team of workers, incorporating:
- hand hygiene and hand care
- use of personal protective equipment
- surface cleaning
- waste management
- handling of potentially infectious material
- hazard identification and risk assessment and management
To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency.
Regular attendance is necessary.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks and consist of theory and practical based tasks.

Third Party Report |
This Third Party Report must be submitted with the Infection Control Report. This assessment requirement provides evidence of student ability and clinical performance relevant to the Infection Control and observed by their supervisor in the workplace and is submitted via Canvas. The exact due date will be issued to each group. In order to achieve a Satisfactory result, the report must be completed. If the student does not achieve a satisfactory result, feedback will be provided via Canvas and the student to complete the re-submission. |
