Course Description

In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to apply work health and safety (WHS) requirements, including implementing safe work practices, participating in risk assessment and control, and following emergency procedures in the creative industries.

The course applies to those who are required to identify their individual WHS responsibilities and implement procedures to work safely in creative industry work contexts.

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Develop and maintain own knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice and workplace policies and procedures

1.2 Apply legislative requirements, safety documentation and signage to work tasks

1.3 Comply with duty of care requirements relevant to work tasks

1.4 Use personal protective equipment and other measures as required to prevent injury or impairment

1.5 Use tools, equipment and materials according to safe work practices

1.6 Participate in WHS consultative activities

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises, oral presentations and through the application of learned skills and insights to your written tasks. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on CANVAS. 


Assessment Tasks

Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency.  To be assessed competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard expected in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Assessment 01: WHS Safety Research 

In this assessment you will demonstrate an understanding of how to follow safe work practices and maintain personal safety in creative industries context. Collaborate to work safely and maintain a safe workplace. Implement safe work practices. Understand ‘duty of care’. 

Due Week 6

Assessment 02: WHS Safety Procedures

In this project you need to apply your knowledge of WHS and demonstrate your understanding of how to follow safe work practices and maintain personal safety.
