This unit covers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a target audience.

Learning Outcomes
Learners will develop communication skills for presenting a range of concepts and ideas. They will learn how to make presentations for a range of purposes, such as marketing, training, promotions, etc.

Overview of Assessment
In order to achieve competency in this unit, you must provide:
Evidence of the following:
- preparation, delivery and evaluation of the effectiveness of at least two presentations related to the candidate's occupation or area of interest
- knowledge of the principles of effective communication.
Performance Evidence
Evidence of the ability to:
- culturally appropriate communication skills to relate to people from diverse backgrounds and people with diverse abilities
- facilitation and presentation skills to communicate central ideas of a message in an informative and engaging manner, and to utilise verbal and non-verbal techniques to sustain participant engagement
- literacy skills to prepare presentation information and to write in a range of styles for different target audiences.
Knowledge Evidence
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, you must:
- data collection methods that will support review of presentations
- industry, product/service
- key provisions of relevant legislation from all forms of government that may affect aspects of business operations, such as:
- anti-discrimination legislation
- ethical principles
- codes of practice
- privacy laws
- environmental issues
- occupational health and safety
- principles of effective communication
- range of presentation aids and materials available to support presentations
Assessment Conditions
A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:
- demonstration of preparation, delivery and evaluation of a presentation
- direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
- observation of presentations
- review of selected presentation aids, materials and techniques
- review of briefing provided for others involved in the presentation
- evaluation of techniques implemented to review the effectiveness of the presentation
- You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
Feedback
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions. You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed. Finally, you can email or arrange an appointment with your teacher to gain more feedback on your progress.
You should take note of all feedback received and use this information to improve your learning outcomes and final performance in the course.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment 1: Presentation (Facebook Live)
Due: Week 6
This assessment will be produced in presentation format using Facebook Live. A brief report is also required which summarises recommendations for improvements to other student’s presentations which they can incorporate into future presentation work.
You are also required to listen/like/comment in other participants Facebook Live presentations.
To complete this assessment task, you will need to:
• Select and deliver a presentation. This can be something that they are passionate about, a hobby, an area of public relations that interests them or an area of life in general that interests them.
Assessment 2 - Major Presentation (Role Play Scenario)
Due: Week 13
This assessment will be conducted in pairs and will be in presentation format either PowerPoint, Sway, Prezi or some other presentation software relevant to a business audience.
Students are to assume the role of employee who has developed a campaign concept (product service idea) reliant upon funds from their Manager and Board of Directors to implement.
The presentation audience will comprise other students and the teacher who will be given role play scenarios relevant to the context. Each role play character will be provided with some basic comments and questions that they need to contribute to the presentation. Presenters response to these questions will form part of the feedback provided at the end of each of the presentations.
Upon completion of all presentations, based on the quality of the concept/campaign and presentation the group will decide which concepts will be funded. The Chairperson (teacher) and Deputy Chair (one of the roles) will have the final say however, as is the case in business, they will be influenced by the feedback from their Board Members and Management Team.
To complete this assessment task, students will need to:
• Select a presentation topic concept, product, service, campaign. This can be something that you are passionate about, related to PR that requires the approval of funds from a third party. (i.e. Board of Directors)

- Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
- Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
- When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use the Assessment task document that includes a declaration and statement of authorship.
- Each page of your assessment should include footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers.

If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.
