RMIT University and Open Universities Australia Announce Online MBA

Open Universities and RMIT University have joined forces to offer an online Master of Business Administration for the first time, starting February 2007.

Executives looking to accelerate their careers with an MBA will be able to study for this highly regarded degree, while enjoying the convenience and flexibility that online learning offers.

According to Professor John Toohey, Head of the Graduate School of Business at RMIT University, the world of business is changing at breathtaking speed and conventional models of business education - the one size fits all approach - are obsolete.

“The Open Universities and RMIT partnership will help today’s time-poor executives become tomorrow’s business leaders,” said Professor Toohey. “Building on the long standing RMIT MBA we have spent 2 years developing the online program concept” he added.

“The RMIT MBA (Executive) program produces well-educated, self-aware and highly proficient business leaders. The only difference between the on-campus degree and online degree is the flexibility to study anywhere you are - from home, at work, or even while travelling,” he said.

The online RMIT MBA (Executive) program is aimed at working professionals and combines general management skills with specialist know-how in international business management.

According to Ann Deden, General Manager of Academic Products and Services at Open Universities Australia, online postgraduate enrolments at Open Universities, Australia’s leading online education service, have increased by 89 per cent this year, with employer demand for highly qualified workers a major influence.

“This significant growth is due to more working professionals recognising the distinct advantage further qualifications provide,” said Dr Deden.

“While postgraduate qualifications can help you realise your potential, on-campus study is often not an option for many people working full-time”. “The online program will have strong service support to ensure all the students’ needs are met”.

“In the increasingly competitive world of business, postgraduate qualifications, such as an MBA, can open doors and lead to new and exciting career opportunities and higher earnings.”

“If you’re in a managerial position and looking to work in Asian markets or globally, this is a terrific degree. There is a major emphasis on international business, with opportunities to travel to regional centres and work with international peers face to face,” she said.

RMIT’s online MBA is available to people who already have an undergraduate degree as well as substantial and relevant work experience at a managerial level.

Open Universities Australia is the country’s leading online education service and is a consortium of seven leading Australian Universities: Curtin, Griffith, Macquarie, Monash, RMIT, Swinburne and UniSA.

More than 90,000 people have studied through Open Universities Australia over the past 13 years, choosing from a range of 700 individual units from 70 different subject areas.
