Frequently asked questions for Students (FAQs)

What surveys will I have to complete during my University career?

The Survey Services Centre (SSC) conducts three major surveys of students. These are the Course Experience Survey (CES), the Student Experience Survey (SES) and the Australian Graduate Survey (AGS). You may be asked by other areas to complete surveys from time to time.

What are these surveys all about?

The CES is a university survey about your course. The SES is a university survey about your program (internal reporting) and the AGS is a national survey (external reporting, to the Commonwealth Government's Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) that you complete in the year after you graduate, so that we know what you are doing with your qualification from RMIT.

How often will I be asked to complete these surveys?

All the information you provide is used by RMIT to improve its services to students. For the CES, you will be asked to complete a survey once for every course each semester. The SES is conducted once a year. The AGS is sent to you at your home address in the May of the following year after your graduate.

Is the information that I write on the form kept confidential?

Yes, all the information is confidential. We do not ask for your name on the form, so we have no way of identifying individuals.

What format are the reports from the surveys delivered in?

The data from the each survey is analysed and the ensuing electronic CES reports are e-mailed to your teacher, the SES reports are available to staff members on-line and the results from the AGS are published by Graduate Careers Australia

What happens to my written comments on the Course Experience Survey?

Survey results are returned to the teacher of your course, so that he/she can read your comments.

Who receives the results from my surveys?

Student evaluations are available to University staff dealing with Teaching and Learning matters including Pro Vice-Chancellors, Heads of Schools, Deans (Academic Development) and relevant staff from Central Groups.

Does RMIT University act on the feedback?

Yes, we take student feedback very seriously and use it in planning for the future, which could easily be within your time of study at the university.

Are the surveys compulsory?

No, none of the university surveys are compulsory, but we encourage our students to fill them in, so that improvements can be made to their/and future students study experience.

Can I receive a copy of the results?
