The quality of RMIT University research has been highlighted by “above world standard” results in six disciplines in the Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) exercise.
Professor Daine Alcorn, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation and Vice-President, congratulated all RMIT researchers, particularly those who achieved outcomes at or above world standard.
The ERA assessment is the first nationwide analysis of research quality conducted in Australia.
The outcomes underline RMIT’s status as a global university of technology and design, with “above world standard” results in the following disciplines:
RMIT research was judged to be at world standard in a further 18 disciplines.
The quality was further highlighted with RMIT research assessed as at or above world standard in the following clusters:
“This result reflects RMIT’s strengths as a global university of technology and design, and our commitment to high-quality and high-impact research in five research focus areas,” Professor Alcorn said. The focus areas are:
Professor Alcorn said that RMIT’s new five-year strategic plan placed a significant emphasis on research that was global, urban and connected with industry and the community.
“This round of ERA data covers the period 2003 to 2008 and RMIT has made substantial progress in strengthening its research profile since then, with the establishment of four Research Institutes in the fields of Design, Global Cities, Platform Technologies and Health Innovation.
“RMIT is considerably more focused in its research efforts than many other universities, with our research concentrated in 39 of the 157 four-digit Field of Research codes,” Professor Alcorn said.
More than 10,000 research outputs were submitted by the University for assessment.
