Course Description

In this course you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to finish completed work in the production of garments or other associated articles.

Performance Criteria:	4.1 Inspect garment and check against quality standards, identify any faults and take appropriate action  4.2 Record results of inspection of finished garment and take action to either reject or correct faulty garment and record  4.3 Record preventative action taken to avoid any recurrence of defective garment  4.4 Complete production records and packing slips  4.5 Direct completed work to next operation or packing section

Performance Criteria:	1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)  1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times  1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs  1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions

Performance Criteria:	2.1 Identify garment requirements from production specifications  2.2 Determine machining requirements and develop a plan for garment construction  2.3 Check and lay out work pieces in sequence according to construction plan  2.4 Prepare workstation, machines and equipment

Performance Criteria:	3.1 Sew garment according to requirements for sewing woven and stretch knit fabrics, quality standards and workplace procedures  3.2 Sew garment according to requirements for speed of work  3.3 Control machine speed and work handling for type of operations, fabrics and product type  3.4 Regularly check performance of machine for signs of faulty operation, including evidence from inspection of finished pieces, and take required action

1	Overview of S2: Course, how the units are clustered and assessment outline-  Introduction: Cutting machines-give out handout  Discussion: Fabric choices for garments constructed in class  Ladies’ shorts -fabric and elastic types and methods-assembly plan  Discuss GRAINLINES-PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS AND NOTCHES	Discuss all three assessments  Student resource folder  Students to research different types of elastics  Begin-Assessment Task 1-Knowledge test
2	Demonstrate lay planning, labelling and bundling methods  Show- MARKER VIDEO  Class to start Pocket samples   Teacher demonstration -2 types-hip pocket and in seam pocket	PART A-Assessment Task 1 –complete in class.
3	Marker making class exercise—Lay Planning- Two class exercises.  Skirt Exercise-Students trace half scale skirt cut pattern and glue onto card, check pattern markings, make a lay plan using 90cm width for fabric.  Marker making exercise using full scale Raglan T-shirt.  Lay up on knit fabric and cut it out. --can work in pairs or three in a group. -This is for Assessment Task 1       LADIES SHORTS PROJECT-Shorts are Pre-Cut, students to collect there garment pieces and make a bundle -include all garment pieces labels and elastic and Assembly plan.	Due - Assessment Task 1-Part B- Knowledge Quiz- Must complete in class week 3 class.
4	Continue pocket samples and start construction ladies’ shorts  Discuss labels and fibre content-Do the class exercise on labelling garments.
5	Continue ladies’ shorts- (as an option students can construct matching Festival top)
6	Review to date  Introduction- KNIT MACHINES and DEMONSTRATE  Students must complete their knit samples before commencing their knit garment.  Discuss Rib Knits-One way and Two-way knits-(stretch)  Knit machines-Mock safety stitch, Cover stitch for hems and cover stitch for binding  Students must complete knit machine samples before -commencing assessment task 2-Knit garment	Begin-Assessment task 2-Knit Project      Complete Knit samples
7	Knit Project- Each student to collect all required cut pieces plus labels and make a bundle under teacher supervision.
	MID TERM BREAK
8	Construct and continue knit garment-follow assembly plan and quality checklist.  Baby T-shirt -as an extra class exercise for those students who have completed their-Knit  Assessment Task
9	Continue knit project and relevant paperwork-Quality checklist
