Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to participate in an assessment validation process. It applies to assessors and workplace supervisors with assessment validation responsibilities participating in, but not necessarily leading, the process.

Learning Outcomes
The learning outcomes for this course are based on the participant's previous completion of TAEASS403B and additional training and assessment will enable the participant to demonstrate the following outcomes:
- clearly identify the purpose for each validation, and the legal and ethical responsibilities of assessors
- collate and present documentation for each validation in a logical manner
- communicate and liaise with relevant people
- provide feedback and interpret documentation in validation sessions
- record their contribution to validation findings.
Details of Learning Activities
This unit within the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment requires you to implement an assessment plan, and gather quality evidence to assess the competence of a candidate using compliant assessment tools. Throughout the session times; there will be an opportunity to participate and collaborate as a group; You will participate in learning activities such as: analysis of case studies and scenarios, group discussions and working in groups. Other activities will include: online research, and reading articles provided by your trainer.
At RMIT Work Integrated Learning (WIL) refers to opportunities for you to experience either real or simulated workplaces within your program. WIL activities in this program include:
• Simulations of training and assessment work environments
• Work based projects completed within your own workplace.
Many students who undertake this program are already employed in a training and assessment role. Some assessment activities are conducted in a workplace and you are encouraged to use your own workplaces for this. If you do not have a workplace please consult your trainer about alternative arrangements.

It is expected that you attend all classes to get the best learning experience, and be assessed as competent for the unit. Please notify your teacher of an expected absence.

We will undertake an activity engaging in two-way communication with an RPL candidate in a briefing meeting, documenting evidence and reporting results as we go. Then we will conduct our second meeting with our candidate to actually assess them based on this meeting plus give them the results based on the evidence provided. This relates to Assessment Task 5 - Assess RPL Competence Note: We will also prepare for Assessment Task 6 (which is an 'In-Class-Assessment'), where the RPL Assessment for BSBWRT311 from Assessment Task 5 is validated in class in small groups. |

Overview of Assessment
The unit TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation is holistically assessed with 3 other units within the TAE40116 qualification namely TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools, TAEASS402 Assess competence and TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and process.
Assessment of these 4 units consists of:
- Short answer knowledge questions
- Planning assessment activities and processess
- Preparing and planning to assess competence on 5 occasions
- Planning, designing and developing three (3) assessment tools
- Participate in validation in 3 assessment tools
Assessment Tasks
A comprehensive assessment document with all requirements will be provided at the commencement of classes and uploaded to the Canvas shell. This section will just provide a high-level summary of the assessment tasks. This unit is delivered as a clustered unit with TAEASS401, TAEASS402, TAEASS403, and TAEASS502.
Assessment Task 1: Plan assessment (RPL) for unit BSBTWK201 | This task is based on a case study provided. You may work on your own or with one or two others to: 1. plan an RPL assessment based on the unit of competency:BSBTWK201 Work effectively with others 2. develop one instrument—a portfolio checklist—to support your RPL assessment plan. |
Assessment Task 2: Plan assessment (training-based) for unit BSBCMM411 | This task is based on a case study provided. You may work on your own or with one or two others to: 1. plan a training-based assessment based on the unit of competency: BSBCMM411 Make presentations 2. develop one instrument—an observation checklist—to support your assessment plan. |

Assessment Task 11: ASS Knowledge questions. | The knowledge questions are paragraph-style questions that cover comprehension of concepts relevant to this cluster, and your understanding of how to apply them. We suggest that you begin work on the questions early, and continuously add to or refine your responses as we cover relevant concepts in training. |
