Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to provide minor maintenance of footwear production machines.

In this unit students will develop knowledge and skills as it relates to problem solving skills and initiative and enterprise to identify and act on minor machine faults within area of own responsibility. This unit also requires planning and organising to safely and efficiently use, check and clean and lubricate machines and technology used in TCF industries. Communication skills are also required to document and report faults and maintenance information.

Learning Outcomes

On the successful completion of this unit you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements. You will have learned to undrstand procedures and guidelines for safe operation and maintenance of machines and typical fault conditions and related fault-finding procedures. In addition you learn basic machine maintenance and repair techniques and cleaning and lubricating techniques.

Details of Learning Activities

This course covers skills and knowledge to provide minor maintenance of production machines and basic hand tools used in the production of Footwear. It also applies to checking machine performance and undertaking minor adjustments to production machines.

To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard required in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1 – Knowledge Questions: This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge required to perform minor maintenance. Due Week 11.

Assessment Task 2 – Perform minor maintenance practical: This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to perform minor maintenance. Due Weeks 2-8

Assessment Task 3 – Clean and maintain finishing machine: This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to perform minor maintenance. Due Weeks 9-16

Assessment Task 4 –Identify, document and report major fault: This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to identify, document and report a major machine fault. Conducted anytime during the 16 weeks as necessary
