Course Description

In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to plan, prepare for and conduct interviews for broadcast.

2.1 Establish an atmosphere that elicits the best possible response from interviewees, and check recording location is safe 2.2 Adopt an interview style appropriate for the format, topic, interviewee and target audience 2.3 Optimise quality of recordings using microphones correctly and safely in studio and non-studio locations 2.4 Introduce interviewees, follow prepared line of questioning and listen to answers to identify further questions that could be asked 2.5 Conduct unplanned lines of questioning, if required 2.6 Recover from presentation errors and respond to equipment malfunction with minimum disruption to flow of interview 2.7 Bring interviewees back to the topic being discussed if required 2.8 Provide a brief recap on the topic and interviewee for listeners who may not have heard the start of the interview 2.9 Wrap up interviews in the given time and thank interviewees for their contribution

Details of Learning Activities

In this program, structured learning occurs in the classroom and through completion of assessment. However, as an independent learner you will also be engaged in unstructured activities such as private study and practice of technical skills required in using cameras, lighting and sound equipment and editing tools . You are also expected to  familiarise yourself with different aspects of the screen and media industry. This includes spending time engaged in attending films and film festivals, watching streamed content, attending industry events and exhibitions and building relationships with industry bodies such as Screen Producers Australia and the Australian Society of Cinematographers.

Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises, oral/written presentations and through the application of learned skills and insights. Assessment Tasks

Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard expected in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Assessment Task 1: This assessment is a short answer knowledge assessment designed to assess knowledge in relation to planning and preparing your interview questions. Due Date: week 4

Assessment Task 2: Preparing and conducting your interviews. This assessment is in two parts: Part A - Rehearsing your interviews; Part B - Shooting your interviews.

Part A - Due Date: weeks 6 and 7

Part B - Due Dates: weeks 9 to 11

Assessment Task 3: Meeting with the tutor to present, review, discuss and evaluate the rough edit of the interview. Due Dates: weeks 12 to 15
