Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage the production of sound recordings from planning through to post-production. It applies to individuals who are responsible for managing the production of sound recordings, including planning and monitoring rehearsals and recording sessions, engaging specialists where required, and overseeing and evaluating the quality of finished recordings.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to work collaboratively with others to manage production of sound recordings for screen content productions.
Details of Learning Activities
In this program, structured learning occurs in the classroom and through completion of assessment. However, as an independent learner you will also be engaged in unstructured activities such as private study and practice of technical skills required in using microphones, audio mixers, recorders and sound editing tools . You are also expected to familiarise yourself with different aspects of the screen and media industry. This includes spending time engaged in attending films and film festivals, watching streamed content, attending industry events and exhibitions and building relationships with industry bodies such as the Screen Producers Association and the Australian Society of Cinematographers.
Your learning activities will take place in a studio, workshop or classroom using industry standard tools and resources. You will complete exercises and industry style projects. You will also be required to undertake independent study.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester and will involve practical exercises, knowledge assessment tasks and practical team based location productions.
Assessment Tasks
For each assessment task you will receive a detailed brief specifying requirements
To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessments to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessments.
Assessment Task 1 - This assessment is a two-part, class and non-class-based knowledge and pre-production assessment to be conducted outside and during timetabled class time. This knowledge assessment is designed to test the student’s ability to answer questions that address key concepts and theory as they grasp an introduction to the Management of Production of Sound Recordings. Students must adequately answer all questions to a competent standard. This Pre-Production assessment also tests the student’s ability to compile necessary (pre) production documentation such as scheduling, sound, location, rehearsal, equipment and safety reports/evaluations/photos and issues. Due Date: week 5
Assessment Task 2 - Location Sound and Music Recording. This assessment is a two (2) part practical production assessment to be conducted during timetabled class time. This practical collaborative assessment is designed to test the student's ability to manage the production of an expanded multi-microphone location sound recording for a simulated dialogue-based dramatic shoot (2 short scenes maximum) and a small musical recording using two instruments/musicians (1-2 minutes maximum). Due Date: week 11
Assessment Task 3 - Postproduction Management and Evaluation. Students must manage the post-production and final delivery of files and documents for an expanded multi-microphone location sound recording for a simulated dialogue-based dramatic shoot (2 short scenes maximum) and a small musical recording using 2 instruments/musicians maximum between 1-2 minutes maximum (aka Assessment 2 recordings). Due Date: week 15
Assessment Tasks 1, 2 and 3 are to be finalised by no later than end of Semester 1 Week 16
