Who we are

The RMIT Social Innovation Hub is an inclusive and collaborative co-working space where organisations, technology, research, innovators and ideas collide to co-create impactful solutions to wicked social challenges.

It’s where new ideas, new partnerships and dynamic new platforms that address our thorniest social needs are developed and accelerated through actuators, startups, social enterprises and robust collaboration.

Our approach

We throw open the doors to a collaborative, co-working community to help break down the silos that keep social organisations, technologies, research, industry, academics and innovators apart. In doing so, we become the connective fibre that catalyses social change in unexpected ways that could never be achieved in isolation.

Innovation Catalyst

A multidisciplinary team that plays a key role in activating a vibrant precinct of social innovation through a range of inclusive projects that connect across the City North impact ecosystem.

A first-of-its kind lab operating at the intersection of the human and the technological, where ideas, leaders, innovators and infrastructure bring radical new solutions to some of our thorniest health challenges.

Law and Advocacy Centre for Women

A not-for-profit, Community Legal Centre for women responding to the rising incarceration rate for females in Victoria and providing gender-specific response to assist women in the criminal justice system.

Youthlaw

A not-for-profit, state-wide free legal centre for young people under 25 years of age, assisting with unmet legal need to protect their rights and advocate for fair & effective laws, policies and service responses.

Workforce Innovation and Development Institute

The Workforce Innovation and Development Institute (WIDI) drives innovation in education, training and applied research to enable the growth and transformation of the social service industry.

Melbourne Innovation Districts

A partnership between the City of Melbourne, RMIT University and the University of Melbourne to shape the city’s future by developing urban innovations through open collaborations.

Location

The Social Innovation Hub is located at 155 Pelham St, Carlton – the heart of Melbourne’s first urban innovation district. Nestled between two of the city’s largest universities just north of the CBD, we are part of the Melbourne Innovation Districts (MID) – a collaboration between the City of Melbourne, RMIT and the University of Melbourne.

MID’s first urban innovation precinct is where the city’s knowledge workers, researchers, students and organisations are coming together to collaborate on shared projects. It’s where new spaces - from start-ups to social enterprises - are springing to life to create innovative ideas that will enhance the future of the city.
