For Karyn Varro, the Diploma of Property Services was the first step on her path to becoming an Operational Manager.
Diploma of Property Services (Asset and Facility Management)
A highlight of the program has been the class interaction, giving us the opportunity to discuss real life situations and case studies.
After five years working in facilities management and construction, I knew I was ready for a new challenge. On a colleague’s recommendation, I researched RMIT’s Diploma of Property Services (Asset and Facilities Management) program and found that it provided a mix of subjects that were relevant to my current role but would allow me to develop my skills further. Combined with RMIT’s excellent reputation, convenient hours and location, this made the decision easy.
With the Diploma of Property Services (Asset and Facilities Management) I’ve developed a greater understanding of how my role contributes to my organisation’s overall success and gained confidence in my abilities as I create new goals and manage new challenges.
One of the highlights of the program has been the way that my tutors encourage interaction and enable students to draw on staff expertise, and that of the other students, to discuss real life situations and case studies. This helped to make the course work relevant, fun and interesting.
My current role works across research facilities, law courts, prisons, stadiums and train stations, and I found what I learned throughout the Diploma was able to be applied in each of those scenarios.
From here, I am ready to enter the next stage of my professional development and am looking forward to continuing both with formal study and development through my employment. In the next three years, I am hoping to balance my future role as a Facility Manager with further international travel as I work my way towards my eventual goal of becoming an Operational Manager.
