The Master of Technology (Fashion and Textiles) by Research program enables you to develop an advanced body of knowledge that you may apply to a range of stimulating, real-life research contexts.
Individually supervised research programs are available within one of the School’s research streams of:
- Saving Lives
- Producing Fashion
- Body: Centric Lab
- Creative Materials Lab
- Design Activism
These research streams reflect the School’s research supervisors’ expertise along with the available resources and collaborative relationships with industry and other research organisations.
The program may be undertaken by thesis mode. The program is directed towards candidates taking a scientific approach to conduct research into advanced textiles and material science such as protective, medical and forensic textiles, comfort, performance and sport apparel textiles. Or a social science approach to conduct research into an aspect of the fashion and textiles system such as business practices, global supply chain or ethical practice.
This program will provide you with a foundation for further studies at PhD level and for employment within the fashion and textiles industry in a position allied to technology and/or management, research-based positions in a variety of government, non-government and corporate environments.
NB: MR214 replaces the previous qualification MR069, MR070.
International student visa holders can only study full-time.
Time spent on research
Full-time candidates are expected to commit at least four days per week (or at least two days per week for part-time candidates) to their research. The academic year is 48 weeks.
Regular contact with your supervisor
Candidates are required to establish a schedule of compulsory regular meetings and milestone reviews with their supervisor/s to assess progress against the research plan and overall progression towards timely completion.
