Vice-Chancellor's Research Fellowships Program

One of the best things about RMIT is that you're in a place where there are so many people who are interested in real world impact from their research.

I came to RMIT because it's an impact driven university.

It's focused on making a difference to the lives of everyday people.

This fellowship provides intensive opportunity to build your independence, improve your research skills, and build a stronger network and a collaboration.

I mainly focusing on converting the waste plastics into hydrogen and other useful materials.

We all know that the global challenging about the plastics it cause huge pollution and more importantly these things are made from fossil fuel.

So converting the waste plastic into materials or energy can solve the waste plastic environmental problem and also the energy problem.

Some people are really fortunate to be able to grow up and to be born in beautiful locations that could have great livability.

Some people not, and I don't think that's fair.

So we've been able to develop a digital planning platform called the Australian Urban Observatory that's measuring livability across the 21 largest cities of Australia.

So that might be looking at things like where is the transport access?

Where are the public parks?

Where are those social services that we need?

O That's the sort of things that we are looking at in my research, where we can actually understand how you design A city can support health and well being.

The chemical industry is the largest industrial energy consumer globally and the third largest polluter of CO2 into our atmosphere.

The research I'm doing is figuring out ways we can make that industry use less electricity, use less energy, and emit less CO2 in our environment, which has a huge potential impact.

How is the world going to look for the next generation of people if we aren't able to remove CO2 from our atmosphere?

If we aren't able to stop polluting, it's going to be a very, very different world.

RMIT has a lot of world leading research facility and they have very strong research support.

This thing provides me a great chance to improve myself and build a stronger research profile.

One of the best opportunities is being able to connect with other VC fellows.

It's a really great group of people who are very motivated and interested in a whole range of different transdisciplinary research topics.

It's so easy to be involved with people who have shared interest in applied research that creates impact.

That willingness to try, willingness to make a big impact, and willingness to try to discover a way you can change the world is really the biggest thing that's helped me in my role here.

The VC fellowship has been very positive and rewarding.

I got the opportunity to supervise PhD students and I help them to publish some good research.

It's very great to see that the students learn something new and inspire our next generation.

I've had the most wonderful experience really to be able to concentrate on research, to build a research team, to be able to take new opportunities and to create opportunities not just just for myself, but for the people that I work with and also to contribute to the university.

RMIT has specific strengths and enabling impact platforms and things ranging from advanced materials manufacturing and fabrication to design and creative practice and everything in between.

The fellowship is not only about the rewarding achievements, it provides opportunity for future research leaders who can make change of the world.

You'll be surrounded by so many great researchers who also have real interest in creating impact from their research.

Not just doing research and writing papers, but actually engaging with the world to solve these complex problems that require clever and transdisciplinary approaches.

It is a wonderful experience and you definitely won't regret it.
