Visual Merchandising

Visual Merchandising looks at combining product, environment, and space into a stimulating and engaging display to encourage the sale of a product or service. It has become an important element in retail, exhibitions, theatre, events and photography.

Many elements can be used by visual merchandisers in creating displays, including colour, lighting, space, product information, sensory inputs such as smell, touch, and sound as well as technologies such as digital displays and interactive installations.

RMIT’s Visual Merchandising program is where creativity meets commerce and through the involvement of the industry is developing students with the necessary skills to confront the challenges of a new millennium. Its vitality is supplied by its current and graduate students and a ‘hands-on’ curriculum that is monitored by professional visual merchandisers and practicing professionals.
