New Approaches to Measuring Australia's Creative Workforce - Beyond the Census

Despite the Pandemic lockdowns across Australia, Census 2021 showed that creative employment had continued to grow at a faster rate than the rest of the workforce*.

Much creative work is also 'invisible', in that it happens outside primary employment. Digital disruption is generating a plethora of creative work opportunities that are uncaptured in official statistics, such as social media work and gig economy employment.

New Approaches to Measuring Australia's Creative Workforce is an industry-engaged three -year research project funded by the Australia Research Council and key Industry Partners: Creative Australia, the Department of Cultural Industries (WA), Arts SA, and the City of Sydney. The project uses new ABS datasets to improve baseline statistics for the creative economy, and help governments plan for Australia's growing creative workforce.
