Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work in partnership with a person and their family, carer or others identified by the person to recognise and report the risk of falls.

2.1. Assist the person to understand their rights.

2.2. Work with the person using a person-centred approach to deliver services that ensure their rights and needs are upheld.

2.3. Consult with the person to confirm cultural needs and ensure these are respected and prioritised in service delivery.

2.4. Consult with the person to identify breaches of human rights and respond and report according to organisational policies and procedures and scope of own job role.

2.5. Consult with the person to identify indications of abuse and neglect and report according to organisational policies and procedures and legislative requirements

3.6. Work with the person to implement strategies to ensure that the person is comfortable with decisions made.

3.7. Work with the person to identify barriers to empowerment and determine strategies to address.

3.8. Assist the person to access advocacy services and other complaint mechanisms when required.

Details of Learning Activities

A combination of activities will support learning in this course, such as:

• Primarily face to face (there may be some online classes as needed) to cover theoretical and practical concepts for each topic in the course.

• Learning to apply your skills and knowledge to work integrated learning (WIL), during simulations and classroom-based learning.

• Observations of performance in the workplace and industry placement or simulated environment will be a valuable part of your learning experience.

• Tutorial activities (individually and in teams) to discuss, debate, critique and consolidate your ideas and extend your understanding around key concepts within specific topics

• Online discussion and activities support you to collaborate with other students in your course and debate and debate and discuss ideas

• Self directed study time to enhance and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts

• To further facilitate learning, you are strongly encouraged to use a range of communication tools with your teacher and fellow students by using the online learning platform

Attendance: 

Your learning experience will involve class-based teaching, discussion, demonstration and practical activities.  

It is strongly advised that you attend all timetabled sessions. This will allow you to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring you the maximum opportunity to complete the placement and this course successfully. 

Please note that some assessment are completed as part of the teaching schedule as a result missing classes will impact a students ability to complete task.

Important information regarding Assessment Tasks:

Each individual assessment may only be resubmitted once.

Resubmissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the Program Coordinator, after consultation with the teacher.

All students will be contacted with 7 days by their course coordinator in regard to resubmission completion dates.

Please note an opportunity to repeat clinical placement is not guaranteed and will be at the discretion of the Clinical Coordinator/Program Manager.

EXTENSION OR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g., test, examination, oral, etc.) OR you do attend, but your performance has been affected, you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 5 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date.
