Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate within the vocational education and training (VET) sector regulatory and operational context relevant to the job role of an entry-level VET teacher, trainer and assessor.

The unit applies to VET teachers, trainers and assessors who use a range of general competencies and knowledge to work effectively within the VET sector and typically within a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Details of Learning Activities

This unit within the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment  is clustered and co-delivered with TAEPDD401 Work effectively in the VET sector, and TAEDEL31 Provide work skill instruction and BSBCMM411 Make Presentations. This cluster describes the skills and knowledge required to operate within the vocational education and training (VET) sector regulatory and operational context relevant to the job role of an entry-level VET teacher, trainer and assessor. It requires you to plan, organise and facilitate learning for individuals and groups in a workplace, using real work activities as the basis for learning. Throughout the session times; there will be an opportunity to participate and collaborate as a group; You will participate in learning activities such as: analysis of case studies and scenarios, role plays, developing learning programs, developing lesson strategies group discussions and working in groups. Other activities will include: online research, and reading articles provided by your trainer.

At RMIT Work Integrated Learning (WIL) refers to opportunities for you to experience either real or simulated workplaces within your program. WIL activities in this program include:

• Simulations of training and assessment work environments
• Work based projects completed within your own workplace.

Many students who undertake this program are already employed in a training and assessment role. Some assessment activities are conducted in a workplace and you are encouraged to use your own workplaces for this. If you do not have a workplace please consult your trainer about alternative arrangements.

This unit is co-delivered with TAEPDD401, TAEDEL311, and BSBCMM411. Please refer to your timetable for class times and room allocation. It is expected that you attend all classes to get the best learning experience, and be assessed as competent for the unit. This section will just provide a high-level summary of the assessment tasks. The units within this program are delivered as a clustered and therefore the assessments will cover units TAEPDD401, TAEDEL311, and BSBCMM411. Introduction to VET Assessments

Assessment Task One: Identify VET frameworks, roles
and responsibilities
Providing you with a series of questions and scenarios you must demonstrate your understanding of the vocational education sector within a written assessment. The purpose of this task is to demonstrate your understanding of the VET and RTO context in which you work as a trainer and assessor.
Assessment Task Two: Develop a professional
development plan
You will be required to undertake a recorded discussion about your understanding of the VET sector and what you would like to learn about further. You will then create a 12 month personal development plan.

 

Introduction to training Assessments

Assessment Task One: Knowledge questions You will be presented with a series of written questions to demonstrate your understanding of the content covered throughout this cluster. There are five sections which you are required to complete to be deemed as satisfactory.
Assessment Task Two: Provide work skill instruction for
an individual
Using your knowledge of training within the VET sector you will be required to  Organise, conduct and review a 30-minute work skill instruction session
for an individual.You may train a work skill of your choice that is relevant to your industry or area of expertise.
Assessment Task Three: Train a small group (1) Plan, organise and conduct a 30-minute training session for a small group, that covers one (1) work skill.You may train a work skill of your choice that is relevant to your industry or area of expertise. You must train a small group of at least 2 learners.
Assessment Task Four: Train a small group (2) Plan, organise and conduct a 30-minute training session for a small group, that covers one (1) work skill.You must train a different work skill from what you trained in TTT Tasks 02 and 03.
