Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assess candidate/s competence in an online environment. It involves implementing a plan for the assessment process, gathering quality evidence according to the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and making the assessment decision. It also involves recording and reviewing the completed assessment process.

The unit applies to individuals who use a range of technical competencies to assess candidates who are participating in assessment remotely and interacting with teachers, peers and other industry professionals by means of various electronic applications and communication channels.

Details of Learning Activities

This unit within the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is co-delivered and overall will cover both TAEDEL405 - Plan, organise and facilitate online learning and TAEASS404 - Assess competence in an online environment. This cluster provides skills and knowledge to use a range of technical and training competencies to facilitate/assess synchronous and asynchronous individual or group learning in online environments. These learners may be participating in training remotely and interacting with teachers, peers and other industry professionals by means of various electronic applications and communication channels.

Throughout the session times; there will be an opportunity to participate and collaborate as a group; You will participate in learning activities such as: analysis of case studies and scenarios, role plays, developing learning programs, developing lesson strategies group discussions and working in groups. Other activities will include: online research, and reading articles provided by your trainer.

At RMIT Work Integrated Learning (WIL) refers to opportunities for you to experience either real or simulated workplaces within your program. WIL activities in this program include:

• Simulations of training and assessment work environments
• Work based projects completed within your own workplace.

Many students who undertake this program are already employed in a training and assessment role. Some assessment activities are conducted in a workplace and you are encouraged to use your own workplaces for this. If you do not have a workplace please consult your trainer about alternative arrangements.


Teaching Schedule

This unit is co-delivered and overall will cover both TAEDEL405 - Plan, organise and facilitate online learning and TAEASS404 - Assess competence in an online environment.  Please refer to your timetable for class times and room allocation. It is expected that you attend all classes to get the best learning experience, and be assessed as competent for the unit. Please notify your teacher of an expected absence. While all course content will be delivered, the order and mode of delivery may change depending on the availability of specialist facilities and equipment. Commence setting up your online learning management system. Post your welcome to classroom announcement and setup assessment information for candidates. Schedule and announce times for sessions and assessment brief. Complete template TAEDEL405 1 and 2.

Overview of Assessment

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

  • conduct 2 online assessment processes against at least 1 entire or partial unit of competency from a nationally recognised training package or accredited course:
  • 1 process being asynchronous, for at least 3 candidates
  • 1 process being synchronous, for at least 3 candidates attending an online assessment session at the same time
  • review above online assessment processes and identify opportunities for improvement.

 

In the course of the above, the candidate must:

  • provide clear instructions of the assessment process to each candidate, including in relation to technology requirements
  • conduct assessment process in compliance with the principles of assessment, rules of evidence, organisational policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • ensure that online assessment activities and digital tools used in the assessment process reflect training requirements, assessment conditions, industry context, and candidate needs
  • review evidence submitted online and make assessment decisions
  • communicate assessment decisions to candidates in relation to their assessment completion, seeking and providing feedback electronically on at least one occasion
  • ensure required records of assessments, candidate data and assessment outcomes are maintained according to online assessment system and organisational, regulatory and ethical requirements.

Assessment Tasks

A comprehensive assessment document with all requirements will be provided at the commencement of classes and uploaded to the Canvas shell. This section will just provide a high-level summary of the assessment tasks. This unit co-delivered and overall will cover both TAEDEL405 - Plan, organise and facilitate online learning and TAEASS404 - Assess competence in an online environment.  Due dates for assessment tasks are dependent on access to facilities and equipment. Please check Canvas regularly as any updates will be communicated by your teacher.

TAEASS404 Assessment Tasks 

Assessment task one: Plan, organise and facilitate online learning This assessment task requires you to plan, organise and facilitate an online learning program for a group of at least 3 learners. You will deliver 2 live online sessions and 2 self-paced learning activities. Both live online sessions require to be at least 30min each. You will then gain feedback and reflect on your online facilitation practice.     

TAEDEL405 Assessment Tasks

Assessment task one: Assess competence in an online environment TAEDEL405 assessment task requires you to conduct 2 online assessment activities for 3 candidates. One (1) assessment activity must be asynchronous and assess each candidate individually. The other assessment activity must be synchronous and assess all 3 candidates in the same meeting or event. Once completed you are required to answer a series of questions to demonstrate your knowledge in how you undertook the task.
