Course Description

This course aims to help you develop the skills and knowledge required for the implementation of copyright arrangements, including sourcing copyright information, gaining clearance to use other people’s material and protecting your own original material from unauthorised use.

2.1 Identify copyright owner's exclusive rights to creative works 2.2 Determine need for copyright clearance and identify potential for use of copyright material in accordance with laws and regulations that govern copyright in Australia 2.3 Discuss and confirm copyright clearance issues with relevant personnel 2.4 Determine if moral rights or performer's rights need to be credited 2.5 Obtain and record copyright clearance permissions in accordance with organisational requirements

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to apply relevant copyright information, regulations and laws to working in the creative industries, with a particular emphasis on writing for the screen. You will also be able to apply your knowledge of copyright to protect your own creative work.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include participation in class exercises, oral presentations and practical writing tasks. Full assessment briefs will be provided.

 


Assessment Tasks

Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard expected in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

You should refer to the assessment brief which is available through Canvas for full assessment criteria.

Assessment Task 1: Knowledge questions

Date due: Week 9

A knowledge-based assessment designed to assess students ability to research, identify and apply your knowledge of implementing copyright arrangements within the professional screenwriting industry.

Assessment Task 2: Copyright project

Date due: Week 12

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of copyright as it applies to the business of professional screenwriting.   

Once you have achieved competency for all assessments in a unit of competency, you will receive an overall result. If you have not completed an assessment task to a satisfactory standard, you will be given an opportunity to resubmit that task within one week of receiving feedback from your teacher. If the resubmission is deemed unsatisfactory, the matter will be referred to the Program Coordinator.
