Purpose of the Program

The Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics and Robotics)(Honours) is the study and application of mechanical, electronic, and computer engineering to the design, development, implementation, quality control and management of machinery, products, and manufacturing processes with electro-mechanical and computer-controlled systems, such as those found in industrial robots and autonomous systems, electric vehicles, aircrafts, industrial manufacturing plants, and other related industries. This program will focus on a wide range of engineering  and technological areas, engineering project planning  and management, and practical industry experience.

You will develop skills in working with high-technology engineering systems for the automation of industrial tasks or advanced electronic control systems. As an integral part of our program, you will gain substantial work experiences while still studying with us. In particular, you will undertake an industry-sponsored design project in their final year as part of our Engineering Capstone Project Part A (OENG1183) and Part B (OENG1185)  in which they will conduct an independent research  and  development project that can be analytical, experimental, design or computational in nature (or some combination of these). You will also work as an intern in one of our industry partners as part of OENG1198 Professional Engineering Experience.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering) (Honours) is primarily delivered in face-to-face and blended learning modes at the South Saigon Campus.

Articulation and pathways

As a successful graduate of this program, you may (upon application) be eligible to proceed to a coursework Masters degree in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering or related fields, or even to a research degree including Masters by Research or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Acceptance into these programs would be subject to each program's entry requirements.

Entrance requirements

Program entry requirements

Successful completion of a Vietnamese high school certificate of education or equivalent.

Prerequisites

Minimum overall average score of 7 from all graded subjects taken in the final year of Senior High School. High school mathematics with a minimum score of 6.

A pathways program into the Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering) (Honours) may be offered to suitable applicants who do not meet the mathematics prerequisite

English language requirements

One of the following:

  • Successful completion of RMIT Vietnam English Advanced Level
  • IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0);
  • TOEFL Paper based 580+ (TWE 4.5+);
  • TOEFL Computer based 233+ (TWE 4.5+);
  • TOEFL Internet based 92+ (no band below 20);

Note: TOEFL and IELTS are recognised for two years from the test date. RMIT English results are only recognised for one year from the course completion date.

If you do not meet the above English language requirements you may be offered pre-program English (for one or two semesters) which can be combined in a pathways program into the Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering) (Honours) if both English and the mathematics prerequisites are not met.

External accreditation and industry links

The Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering) (Honours) is provisionally accredited by Engineers Australia. Engineers Australia is the professional body responsible for the accreditation of higher education programs that prepare students to practise as professional engineers. Engineering programs normally go through two stages of accreditation: 

  • Provisional accreditation – Engineers Australia evaluates the program content, structure, delivery and assessment methods. On successful evaluation, the new program is awarded provisional accreditation status. 
  • Full accreditation – Once the program has a cohort of graduates, Engineers Australia re-evaluates it:  this time with a view to awarding full accreditation. Engineers Australia is a signatory to the Washington Accord. This means that programs with full accreditation are internationally recognised and graduates are able to practise as professional engineers in many countries around the world.

Industry Links

The Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering) (Honours) program has an Industry Advisory Committee (IAC). Membership is diverse and drawn from external industry and professional institutions. These committees help inform program development and ensure that program content and student learning outcomes remain closely aligned with the needs of future employers. In addition, academic staff maintain connections with industry to develop and deliver work integrated learning experiences as well as offer advice on professional careers.

Industry links are also encouraged through industry sponsored design projects usually undertake in your final year (as part of OENG1183 Engineering Capstone Project Part A and OENG1185 Engineering Capstone Project Part B). You also have the opportunity of undertaking an Industry Placement for four up to twelve months with one of our industry partners as part of OENG1198 Professional Engineering Experience.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
