Our program prepares primary teachers for the demands of twenty-first century learning and teaching.
Our elective courses allow you to broaden your understanding in a range of areas, including teaching languages, indigenous studies, sustainability in schools and coaching children’s sport.
BP046PEC – Bachelor of Education (Primary and Early Childhood Education) - Bundoora
This specialised degree provides a professional qualification that allows you to work in a \ range of primary and early childhood education settings locally and internationally.
BP046PDS – Bachelor of Education (Primary Education and Disability Studies) - Bundoora
This specialised degree provides a professional qualification in both primary education and disability studies. You’ll be prepared to teach learners with special needs in either special or mainstream schools.

Academic staff members are recognised leaders in the fields of literacy and numeracy teaching and learning development. Program intake is small so that you can develop a connection with fellow students and teachers.
You will experience a variety of contemporary, interactive learning and teaching approaches including both face-to-face and online delivery modes, including:
- interactive coursework seminars
- online simulations (such as the Lathner Virtual School)
- case studies
- reflective techniques (such as journaling)
- group-based learning and discussions
- professional experiences (placements).
Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments. In order to be a lifelong learner, you must be able to evaluate your own practice. Lecturers will provide feedback related to how effectively you work with curriculum, learners and colleagues as a pre-service school teacher.
All programs are delivered in English. You will have access to online resources through the myRMIT student portal.
This program has been designed to provide a minimum of 100 days supervised professional experience. You will engage in professional placements in schools or alternative educational settings such as galleries, zoos and hospitals.
RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. RMIT has an established reputation with many schools, communities and enterprises, which assists students in finding rewarding professional placements. Placements in third year may be taken overseas. Placements in fourth year are selected by students and may include rural or interstate settings.
Through these placements you will learn and develop your own teacher identity. These experiences involve problem-based learning and reflection on practice as you receive feedback from professional mentors.
Aside from traditional educational settings Bachelor of Education graduates have the skills, knowledge and experience to work in private enterprise, government agencies and community service organisations.

Professional recognition and accreditation
This program is accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching and the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
Through reciprocal arrangements between registration authorities, graduates can teach nationally and overseas.
Teaching is a globally-transferable qualification which will always be in demand.
You will have the opportunity to undertake international student exchange programs for a semester in Canada, England, the USA, Sweden and more.
RMIT’s Education Abroad Office (EAO) supports students to undertake an exchange or short term mobility activity with over 165 partner universities worldwide.
There are also opportunities for students to complete alternative professional placements in the Malaysia, Nepal or in remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.
On successful completion of the Bachelor of Education and registration with VIT, graduates are entitled to apply to the Australasian Teacher Regulatory Authorities (ATRA) to register as a teacher nationally and overseas.
