Internships opening the door for VE students

We spoke with two VE students currently interning with the RMIT College of VE Planning and Resources.

Olivia and Maria recently landed coveted internships with RMIT College of VE Planning and Resources, where they work on project planning and implementation, data management and management of IT.

We caught up with Olivia and Maria to get the low-down on what it’s like to intern while studying at RMIT, and what they've learnt in the program so far.

Olivia Lowe

VE Intern Olivia Lowe Diploma of Business student Olivia Lowe.

What team are you working in currently and what are you studying?

I'm currently working in RMIT Facilities, and I’m studying Diploma of Business.

What drew you to apply for the program?

I applied for this internship program as I believe that my studies at RMIT University would benefit my internship and that my internship would benefit my studies.

I'm amazed at the opportunities this internship has given me - from being able to see what working in a business environment looks like to meeting some pretty fantastic people.

What do you expect to gain from this internship?

I expect to gain job experience through exploring a new and different career path. I am certain that working within a business will teach me how to put my knowledge and skills into practise whilst help guide my career goals and refine my skills. I’m confident there is to be a benefit of networking within RMIT’s workplace.

What are your plans after this year and graduating from the Diploma of Business?

After graduating from a Diploma of Business I plan to enrol in a Bachelor of Business and continue my studies. My aspiration in life is to own my own cosmetics company Aivilo and Co – directed at men’s hygiene and general health.

I’d recommend future VE students to apply for an internship because it provides real, relevant experience that gives you the opportunity to trial a career and see if it’s a pathway that’s worth pursuing.

Maria Al Lahham

What team are you working in currently and what are you studying?

The Project Management Office, in the Planning and Service Innovation area as part of the Planning and Resources. I’m currently studying an Associate Degree, Information Technology.

What drew you to apply for the program?

This internship was recommended to me by my program manager, Luke Eberbach, and after reading and knowing more about the program and the role I was drawn by the tasks I'll perform and the valuable skills that I'll gain from this opportunity, which made me take the chance and apply for it and I'm so glad that I did.

What do you expect to gain from this internship?

I see this internship as a way for developing my career and experience in improving my understanding of knowledge management, building a strong M365 capabilities, understanding of professional communication in such a well-established institution.

What are your plans after this year and graduating from associate degree in information technology?

My plan after graduating is to continue studying by doing a Bachelor in IT or finding a permanent job in IT.
