Course Description

In this course you will learn skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers. What you learn in this course applies to a range of health and community service contexts, where you may be required to communicate face-to-face, in writing or using digital media, working with limited responsibility under direct or indirect supervision.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises, oral presentations, and through the application of learned skills and insights to your written tasks. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on CANVAS.


Assessment Tasks

Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard expected in the workplace.   

To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

AT1 Knowledge Assessment

This is an open book assessment scheduled to be submitted (issued in Phase 4 ) via Canvas. This knowledge assessment will allow students to demonstrate their knowledge of how communication occurs in their workplace in the context of their role. Demonstrate students understanding of line of communication between dental practicale and other services keeping in mind legal and eithical considerations. Feedback will be provided via Grade Centre on Canvas and discussed verbally if required. 

 

AT2 Simulated Lab - Practical Assessment 2

This is a simulated practical assessment is conducted in Phase 4 at RMIT Level 3 . This practical workplace assessment has been designed to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to clarify workplace instructions, negotiate timeframes and communicate effectively with colleagues within the Simulated Clinic at RMIT. Feedback will be provided at the end of the practical assessment. 

 

AT3  - Logbook Assessment Task Communication Worplace Task 3

This is a simulated practical assessment is issued online in Phase 3. This practical assessment task is the third of four assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. This assessments students demonstrates  their skills and knowledge to communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds and address communication constraints,under the direction/supervision of their workplace supervisor . Feedback will be provided via Grade Centre on Canvas and discussed verbally if required. 

 

AT4 -Logbook Assessment Task Communication Worplace Task 4

This is a simulated practical assessment is issued online in Phase3. This practical assessment task is the final of four assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. This assessments students demonstrates  their skills and knowledge to communicate effectively when collaborating with colleagues and clarifying workplace instructions,under the direction/supervision of their workplace supervisor .Feedback will be provided via Grade Centre on Canvas and discussed verbally if required.
