Course Description

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to plan and set up a camera shoot. Using professional equipment, and working to planned briefs, you will explore a range of image capture techniques while photographing studio and location subjects.

2.1 Select camera systems and accessories and lighting appropriate to purpose of shoot

2.2 Organise personnel, location and other requirements for photo shoots

2.3 Plan shoots confirming that health and safety and other relevant legal requirements are met

2.4 Set up cameras, lighting, accessories and props to meet production and safety requirements

3.1 Adjust and calibrate settings for camera exposure and subject lighting consistent with image capture requirements

3.2 Capture images, taking into account the time-specific nature of action or movement of subjects

3.3 Review image capture process and techniques to ensure that requirements of brief are being met

3.4 Discuss work in progress with relevant personnel and modify approach as required

3.5 Complete work documentation as required

3.6 Complete image capture work within agreed timelines

4.1 Dismantle work area after use and return to original condition

4.2 Clean and care for equipment according to manufacturer instructions

On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements.

  • set up, light and execute a variety of industry type studio and location photographic shoots.

Delivery: On-campus 

Class Activity: (Small groups in preparation for A02)

•    Demonstrate equipment for A02, Glassware assessment (Graphit floor pack, Scoro Pulso G heads and RFS).
• Demonstrate Brightfield and Darkfield lighting for glassware.
•    Hands-on with new lighting equipment.


Week 4

Delivery: On-campus

Class Activity: 

•    Attend a 1 on 1 appointment to review your Pre-production documents for A01 and A02 for approval.
• Shoot architecture on location
•    Shooting glassware in studios

•    Refresh soft light studio set up for studio fashion lighting.
• Demonstrate location lighting equipment.
• Demonstrate location lighting using ambient and flash fill lighting, use of reflector and diffuser.
•    Small groups for hands-on with new location lighting equipment.

  • questioning and discussion of image capture techniques and their use
