Course Description

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to use a sewing machine to align and sew pattern pieces and sew components. In this course you will experiment with different ways of creating or altering fashion product to meet a range of different styling scenarios.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment 1 - Knowledge Task:  you will be asked to answer questions relating to your understanding of characteristics of fabric and materials, sewing equipment, best practice and safety requirements when operating a sewing machine. Due Week 3.

Assessment 2 - Technical Folder: In this assessment, you will create a technical folder of sewing machine samples. These samples are to be made using pattern pieces supplied by your teacher to sew a range of examples of sewing components and operations. Due Week 9. 

Assessment 3 - Altered Fashion: This assessment allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and competence in determining job requirements, safely undertaking sewing processes and correct operations including sewing machine set-ups, and in reviewing sewing and production processes to check for quality and rectify any faults. Due Week 15.
