Course Description
In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to select and manage building and construction contractors. This includes identifying and quantifying project resource needs and engaging with contractors to determine contract conditions and evaluating their performance.
This course applies to builders and senior managers within building and construction firms and other construction industry personnel who engage and manage various contractors with diverse occupations.

1.1 Assess subcontractor resource requirements based on expected operations and reference to the business plan. 1.2 Manage, prioritise and document subcontractor requirements based on expected work sequence and volume. 1.3 Conduct and manage task analyses to identify competences from the nature of the work to be done and organisational structure. 1.4 Determine the type and number of subcontractors and develop a formal subcontractor structure for the project. 1.5 Research industrial relations legislation and contract legal matters to clarify workplace obligations and subcontractor rights that impact on operations. |

This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building). This course includes a WIL experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.
Learning Outcomes
Learning activities will take place this semester with a blended classroom model; online Virtual Workshop and on campus Tutorial workshop. Learning begins at the start of the week with a 2-hour remote/virtual session using Canvas, followed by a 4-hour tutorial session where students are required to be on campus. Additionally, you will be required to undertake independent study. Please refer to your Course schedule and Canvas shells for specific information on how each of your courses will be delivered this semester.
On campus Tutorial Workshop activities will include:

Establish a communication management plan which outlines effective communication systems for onsite use, ensuring that all parties involved could interact efficiently.
Establish and implement a Subcontractor Management Plan which demonstrate the student’s ability to select and manage building and construction contractors. To be deemed competent, students must demonstrate.
Manage on-site safety, personnel, and resources to achieve project outcomes. This is achieved by designing and implementing.

Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio-based exercises, demonstration and production.
You are required to attend a minimum of 85% of your classes. If you miss classes, you will need to provide a medical certificate to your Trainer/Assessor for classes that result in you not meeting the 85% requirement.
If you fail to attend the minimum required classes and engage in each class, your trainer/assessor will not accept your assessment submissions. You will be required to attend an in-person interview with your trainer/assessor at a lime determined by them. Failure to attend this interview will result in your assessment being rejected. Additionally, the trainer/assessor reserves the right to reject your assessment based on the interview's outcome. This is required to ensure RMIT meets the Standards set for RTOs to ensure the validity of your work.
