Celebrating Our Graduates - Abby Hambleton

Diploma of Live Production student Abby Hambleton shares the great opportunities she has received throughout the course and her advice to future students.

The Diploma of Live Production allows students to experience the world of the production and offers hands on experiences that will assist in learning new skills in the industry. Abby offered valuable advice into the highlights of the program, educators that assisted her in the course and advice to students who are interested in this course.

What was the highlight of this course?

"The highlight of the course for me was certainly putting on all of our events, such as Collide, The Colour Wheel, and Red door. These were all RMIT-run events and put all our work into real world scenarios. It was amazing how we were able to see every aspect of creating an event, from the pre-planning to the stage set-up, to the operating".

Who are the educators that have helped you throughout this course?

"With props to all the wonderful teachers and educators that have helped me through my course, special thanks go to Deb Hatton and Greg Long. Not only did they teach me over these past two years, but they furthered my knowledge of the industry as a whole, helping me find a job and creating industry contacts. They're not only great educators but great people who put in the effort to ensure us as students get the most out of our studies as possible".

What advice do you give future students who are interested in your course?

"My advice for future students is to not be afraid of going part-time. Especially this year as we've been out of lockdowns, I've realized how much time life takes up. Going part-time over two years can help you grow your confidence, allow you to take time for yourself, and work harder on aspects of your career or studies that you're interested in. I wish this option was further pushed in our course as I think it gives more freedom when studying".
