Coaching program empowers students to conquer self-doubt

Hear from the international students that are unlocking their strengths and creating new connections

We spoke with students that recently took part in the International Student Coaching program

The program, consisting of four parts, is designed to help international students identify their strengths and harness them to overcome areas of improvement.

Students participating in the program have overcome self-doubt, acquired the tools to manage challenges they face and made new connections along the way.

What has been the highlight of this program?

This program helped me to make more connections with other people.

In the 1-on-1 coaching session my coach helped me to find out my strengths and build up my confidence and it helped me feel a sense of belonging to RMIT and Melbourne.

What is the most useful thing you’ve gained from the program?

To build our confidence as I am an introverted person, and the 1-on-1 session helped me feel more relaxed.

It helped me to truly be myself. Now it's much easier for me to meet new people and make more friends than before.

What has been the highlight of this program?

I really like the strength profile, because it helps me a lot when I've been through difficult situations.

For example, when I feel down and I am doubting myself and my own abilities, I review my profile and realise that I have things that I can improve on and things that make me myself; and it boosts my confidence.

What is the most useful thing you’ve gained from the program?

It's actually like a guideline and helps you with reviewing yourself – like having a chat with yourself and creating clear directions and visions on your future, like your career path.

What has been the highlight of this program?

I have noticed I learnt what I am lacking and what I am really good at. My coach helped me to know my strengths and weaknesses and when I go to search for a job, I now know more about what kind of job will suit me.

If I encounter any difficulties in my work environment, living environment or relationships with people, I now know what to do.

What is the most useful thing you’ve gained from the program?

When I arrived, I encountered some difficulties, and I didn’t know I could share these kinds of things with our coach, and they helped me to overcome these difficulties.

Now if I encounter the same problems in the future, I can solve them very quickly and confidently

What has been the highlight of this program?

This program helped me learn more about myself and my strengths and weaknesses and how to improve that.

What is the most useful thing you’ve gained from the program?

In my one-on-one session, I received a really detailed suggestion of how to understand the report and how to use my strengths to overcome my weakness.

For example, I'm not very good at time management but I do have a strong sense of responsibility that can help me manage my time and that will give me power to finish tasks.
