Course Description

In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge required to follow organisational policies and procedures for safe work practice. 

On completion of the unit you will have an understanding of the requirements for all employees under state and territory Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, to participate in the management of their own health and safety, that of their colleagues and anyone else in the workplace.

Performance Criteria:

1.1.Follow workplace procedures for safe work practice.

1.2.Follow safety instructions from supervisors, managers and workplace safety signage, and observe other risk control measures.

1.3.Use personal protective equipment and safe manual handling techniques to protect self as required.

1.4.Work safely around dangerous goods and substances.

1.5.Identify and remove safety hazards, and report all workplace hazards as they arise.

1.6.Promptly report unsafe work practices, incidents and accidents.

Details of Learning Activities

Welcome to Contribute to workplace health and safety. This course is combined with Design and Install Merchandise Signage.

In class we call this Prop Making for short. 

This course is all about making great props and signage, and doing it safely! Over the next 16 weeks we will meet for 3 hours each week in the Visual Merchandising workshop to explore signage manufacturing techniques and safe working practices. Online resources will be available through our online learning  system called Canvas. Canvas  will be used in this course as the place where you can access course materials, assessments and inspirational information.  

By the end of this course you should be able to create a range of signage and props, and have a solid grounding in working safely in the workplace..

Both courses will be assessed as Competent/Not Yet Competent.

  

Learning activities will take place this semester with a blended classroom model using industry standard tools and resources. Some classes maybe scheduled to be on campus, and some may be in a remote (virtual) learning mode online.

You will also be required to undertake independent study.

Reference mode of delivery for this course is a blended approach / studio-based delivery.
