Future Edge

Be recognised for building your practical, transferable skills through volunteering, events and other experiences.

What is Future Edge?

Future Edge is a self-paced program that helps you build practical, transferable skills through training, volunteering, events and other experiences.

Many employers and businesses are looking for graduates who have more than just a qualification – they want individuals who have strong communication, teamwork and time management skills, who can problem solve and be adaptable.

Future Edge is designed to help you build your capabilities across these areas (and many more!) and show employers that you have the skills and experience they're looking for.

You can complete the Future Edge program in your own time while studying and decide which skills you want to focus on building.

As part of the Future Edge program, you will:

  • Create a personal plan that outlines your goal and the skills you want to build
  • Improve your skills through volunteering, events, workshops, part-time work and more
  • Learn how to communicate your skills and experiences to potential employers

The Future Edge Journey

The Future Edge Program has three stages.

Attend a Sorted for Success workshop, where you will develop your goal and identify specific actions you can complete to help you achieve your goal.

During the workshop, we’ll look at past student’s goals and journeys so you can get inspiration for your plan, and staff are ready to help you identify different experiences and activities you can do to build your skills and reach your goal.

If you can’t attend the workshop, you can watch a summary of it and answer a few short questions online.

Finally, you’ll upload your Future Edge goal and actions.

This is the stage where you start completing the actions you set to help you reach your goal. It might involve volunteering, attending workshops, online training, or lots more.

As you complete each experience, you’ll submit records to show what you’ve done.

Once you’ve worked towards achieving your goal and recorded a minimum amount of activities and experiences, you can complete your Future Edge Journey by reflecting on what you have learned and setting yourself more goals to work towards.
