How RMIT Plus helped Hasin turn experience into opportunity

When Hasin Raihan Dhrubo joined RMIT Plus, he wasn’t just looking to complete a co-curricular activity. He was looking for something that would push him beyond his comfort zone and help him build a future in robotics and AI.

“I knew I needed to upskill beyond coursework,” Hasin says. “To find real-world opportunities that aligned with my interests, whether that led to a job or a research career.”

Finding direction through hands-on experience

RMIT Plus became the catalyst for that search. It encouraged Hasin to reflect on his goals and take action, leading him to join the RMIT Rover team. What started as a desire to contribute quickly evolved into a leadership role. He is now the Autonomy and Software Lead, building full end-to-end autonomy stacks for the team’s rover.

“That experience has completely changed my direction and confidence,” he says. “It’s not just a highlight, it’s been a turning point.”

Hasin’s story shows how RMIT Plus can complement involvement in student-led initiatives, helping students translate their interests into real-world outcomes.

Turning projects into pathways

Through RMIT Plus, Hasin didn’t just gain technical experience. His work with the Rover team directly informed his thesis project, which introduced him to a potential PhD supervisor and opened doors to an academic future he hadn’t previously considered.

“RMIT Plus encouraged me to pursue and reflect on experiences I might’ve otherwise dismissed or underestimated,” he explains. “It’s now become a launchpad for my academic future.”

Advice for getting started

Hasin’s advice to other students is simple and encouraging:

“Just try it. You don’t need a polished path. You just need to start doing things. Even if it feels small or uncertain at first, you’d be surprised where it can lead.”

For Hasin, RMIT Plus wasn’t just a program. It was a platform to build something meaningful, connect with his passions, and take the first steps toward a career in robotics and research.

RMIT Plus is a free, self-paced, co-curricular skills recognition program designed to help you build your life and work skills. It recognises your current co-curricular experiences and introduces you to new opportunities like volunteering, mentoring, networking, industry and career activities, and self-development experiences. When you successfully complete RMIT Plus, it will be recorded on your academic transcript.
