What is RMIT Vietnam?

RMIT Vietnam is the Asian hub of RMIT University, with two purpose built and well-equipped modern campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.  Cross-campus exchange involves studying at our Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi campuses for a semester or year. The programs and courses on offer at RMIT Vietnam are identical to those offered at RMIT Melbourne, and are taught in English. You will remain enrolled as an RMIT student, paying fees and accruing HECS as usual.


Who is eligible?

Undergraduate, associate degree, postgraduate and Diploma of Languages: students must have completed at least one semester (minimum 36 credit points) at the time of registration.

Vocational Education: students are not eligible for exchange.

All exchange students need to meet the eligibility criteria:

  • minimum RMIT grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
  • 18 years of age by the official start date of the exchange program at RMIT Vietnam
  • current RMIT program enrolment. Students on a Leave of Absence not exceeding one year can also apply

If you are currently enrolled in one of the above programs you can refer to the course guides in your enrolment program structure to check which courses are offered at our Vietnam campuses. If you do not study any of the above disciplines or programs, you could use your University electives.

How much will it cost?

Over 30 New Colombo Plan (NCP) grants of $3,500 are available each year to support RMIT students wishing to study at our Vietnam campuses.

You will continue to pay your domestic or international student fees to RMIT Melbourne. While on exchange you remain enrolled as an RMIT student, paying fees and accruing HECS as usual.

You need to have sufficient funds to finance a semester/s overseas. You may be asked to provide evidence of your financial security when applying for your visa.

How do I apply?

Registration for exchange to RMIT Vietnam must be completed three months prior to the start of the Vietnam semester.

Semester 1 Feb to May Register by 1 November
Semester 2 Jun to Sep Register by 1 March
Semester 3 Oct to Jan Register by 1 July

Step 1 Attend an information session

Step 2 Create a study plan and get approval from your school

Step 3 Submit your online registration by the deadline (see table above)

Step 4 If successful, you will receive an acceptance letter from RMIT Vietnam and you can start to make travel arrangements (flights, visas etc.)

Step 5 Attend the GEO ‘Pre-departure Symposium’
