AI Student Advisory Board

Members of the AI Student Advisory Board (AISAB) provide feedback on the adoption of generative AI in education at RMIT

What is the AI Student Advisory Board?

The AI Student Advisory Board (AISAB) is a standing group of RMIT students who provide feedback, ideas and advice on the adoption of generative AI and related technologies across learning, teaching and the student experience.

The Board is supported by RMIT’s Generative AI Lab for Education (GAILE) and the RAIsE Hub and operates in an advisory capacity. The Board does not make final decisions, but their insights will help shape directions.

Who can join

Members are current students at RMIT from across vocational education, undergraduate, and graduate programs. Recruitment aims to ensure wide representation of the student body, considering individual students' engagement with relevant AI tools and systems, digital capability, or interdisciplinary learning initiatives across the university.

Consideration also given to including students from varied demographic backgrounds, particularly those from backgrounds not often represented in, or traditionally underserved by, higher education.

Membership expectations

Board members are expected to:

  • attend at least one meeting per semester
  • read meeting notes and respond to discussion prompts if unable to attend in person
  • stay engaged with board communications through proposed channels
  • treat conversations and experiences shared in meetings with care and confidentiality
  • engage constructively and inclusively with others.

Membership is for one year, with the option to continue if expectations are met.

About GAILE

The Generative AI Lab for Education (GAILE) at RMIT was established with a sector-facing mission: to guide and enable human-centred adoption of AI in education.

We’re building GAILE as a catalyst for transformation to build understanding of where AI creates real and impactful value. With a focus on how AI can amplify the work of educators and, in turn, better support and empower students.

Together we will:

  • For AI: build educator capability and confidence to innovate with AI
  • With AI: enhance teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment
  • About AI: foster critical, ethical and societal understanding.

In collaboration with students, staff, industry and government, GAILE fast-tracks initiatives from concept to implementation with clarity and pace. We’re not just responding to AI, we’re building a community to shape it, always asking how it amplifies human expertise and enriches student learning.
