Students kick off the semester at HE O Week

Thousands of HE students embraced the start of semester at RMIT’s Melbourne campuses this week.

Higher Education (HE) students were officially welcomed to 2023 during HE O Week, with Bundoora, Brunswick and the City campuses all holding events to welcome students to RMIT.

The traditional Welcome to Country opened all three days giving students the chance to immerse themselves in Indigenous culture, before enjoying music from local DJs, a delicious range of free food and a variety of games and activities.

Students had the chance to win prizes through a challenging ride on a stationary bike and were also seen cycling to blend their own refreshing smoothies.

There was ample opportunity to learn about RMIT’s services and resources available to students, with plenty of stalls lined up including RMIT Wellbeing, RUSU and RMIT Sport on hand to answer any questions students had.

First year student Nathan, who is starting his Bachelor of Engineering degree this year, said these events have helped him ease into life at uni.

“I’m just really looking forward to getting stuck in,” he said.

“I’m still getting used to how everything works, but I’ve been to a few events which has already helped settle the nerves.”

The whole vibe here has made me feel like I belong and realise that uni isn’t just spent studying behind a laptop.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp welcomes RMIT students

The City campus was packed out for O Week on Thursday, with Lord Mayor Sally Capp’s visit the highlight for many commencing students.

The Lord Mayor’s visit was welcomed, as she met with some of our international students while exploring the campus which has become an integral part to the City of Melbourne.

International Student Anh Tran had the opportunity to meet with Sally and said she’s excited for the semester ahead.

“This semester I am looking forward to making new friends, going on trips having more chances to experience new things,” she said.
