Unleashing the Power of Giving: RMIT's Volunteer of the Month

Every month a student from our volunteering community is recognized as Volunteer of the Month for their contribution to different events.

We're pleased to share that the Volunteer of the Month for October is Murray Pascale! Murray, is a second year Bachelor of Business student, was nominated for his contribution to SEAG (Student Experience Advisory Group).

Murray started volunteering with RMIT as a peer mentor because he wanted to learn how to help other students.

"I saw it as a great opportunity to strengthen my confidence, public speaking and time-management skills, and my ability to connect with others.

I was eager to connect with a diverse range of students, as I think it is absolutely fascinating what students from different cultures and backgrounds have to share, once you actually get to know them," he said.

After his experience as a peer mentor, Murray was selected to represent the peer mentoring program in SEAG, a small, diverse group of RMIT’s student representatives and leaders. He saw SEAG as a great opportunity to engage with fellow leaders and contribute to key projects such as RMIT’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access (IDEA) framework and future campus design, from the lens of a Peer Mentor.

Through volunteering, I have been able to build some amazing connections with fellow student leaders in the SEAG and the peer mentoring program’s leadership team. Additionally, through mentoring a number of international students, I have learned many new things about different countries and cultures.

Murray mentioned shared that he wanted to learn from other student leaders and broaden his understanding of such issues, by listening to a diverse range of perspectives.

Murray was given an RMIT goodie bag in recognition of his efforts, which included a $100 RMIT Campus Store voucher, certificate of recognition, and a free 4-week gym pass! His experience helped him step out of his comfort zone and discover a passion he never knew he had.
